WHY WE SHOULD IMPROVE INDOOR AIR QUALITY?

WHY WE SHOULD IMPROVE INDOOR AIR QUALITY?

Air is essential to our existence. Did you know that everyone breathes 15 kilos of air and inhales and exhales 30,000 times daily?

Clean air is an essential, yet limited commodity on earth. Just like we drink liters of water during the day. Most people tend to associate air quality with outdoor air pollution, but air quality indoors is just as important, if not more.

Humans are incredible indoor creatures. During our lifetime, we spend 90% of our time working and living indoors, be it within our homes, at the office, or other enclosed environments, so indoor air tends to be much more impactful in our lives and for our health and wellbeing.

Poor indoor air quality can lead to a wide range of health issues, from mild discomfort to respiratory diseases. The number of pollutants is elevated indoors. Influenza and other respiratory viruses also spread through the air and cause a huge amount of illness and lost productivity. Yet because air is invisible, it’s easy to overlook its quality. You can’t always see, smell, or feel it, except for dust or smoke.

Simple actions can help improve indoor air quality. Here are a few effective steps:

1.Ensure good ventilation – Keep interior doors and windows open whenever possible.

2.Maintain furniture placement – Position beds and other furnishings away from exterior walls to allow for airflow.

3.Invest in a mechanical HVAC system – Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning can help regulate and filter indoor air.

4.Add houseplants – Certain plants naturally filter and refresh the air.

Improving indoor air quality is a vital step toward a healthier life. Clean indoor air supports not only our physical health but also our mental well-being, helping us feel more energized and focused. By making small changes like enhancing ventilation, using air-purifying plants, and investing in quality HVAC systems, we can protect ourselves and our loved ones from the hidden effects of indoor pollution. Let's take proactive steps to make our indoor spaces as safe and healthy as possible—starting today.
